Even if it hurts us, we have to pull it out

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them. Ephesians 5:11
Eagles, when they see that their wings are already very battered and they cannot fly, they pull feathers out with the beak; when their claws are too worn out, they pull them off; and when their beak no longer has the strength to grab or hold, they rip it off by beating themselves against a rock.
They do not care how much it hurts. They just know that they have to pull them off, for they will no longer be able to fly, or hunt; and that would mean their death.
The courage they show, it is impressive and worthy of being imitated by us; for there are things that harm us and, even if it hurts us, we have to pull them out. But we prefer to continue with them while they are going to destroy us… The eagle, being a bird, is smarter than us.
Let us examine ourselves, for we have to find many things that are but must not be. When we pull them out, we will take a higher flight and nothing will be able to stop us, for we will have removed that which is no good.
