Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28
There are times when we let ourselves be wrapped in deep sorrow, when we feel that what we do is not taken into consideration. This affects our soul; it becomes distressed and gives rise to depression, which makes us lose interest on all things as well as the will to live.
This happens because we are always expecting something from others. When it does not come to pass, we get disappointed because our expectation was not fulfilled. It is a shame that we have received Jesus in our heart, yet our mind does not come to understand that we no longer live for receiving but giving.
Our old nature is full of emotional conditions, which stop our spiritual growth. It is necessary to understand that we cannot move under human conditions but spiritual ones. When we learn to live this way, we will never expect anything from anybody, but always give out of love to Him.
When we come to attain such a measure, we will rejoice incessantly once we understand that He already gave us everything since before the foundation of the world. What else can we expect, if we already have everything? Enjoy and give without limit, expecting nothing in return, for what might be given to us will not compare to what we have.
