Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well… 1 Timothy 1:18
Sometimes we feel that we cannot keep on going, that we have no strength and that we will not win. The tine comes when we find ourselves at a crossroad. Getting out of it takes a lot of bravery and effort; we think whether it will be worth the trouble or we give up and accept what is now.
Paul had a spiritual son, Timothy, whom he taught, discipled, encouraged, guided and took care of, so he grew strong in the gospel. Paul knew of the spiritual struggle and knew how hard it was for believers to remain true to the good confession.
In moments of sorrow and pain, remember what Paul told Timothy, making him remember the prophecies that had been given to him, in order for him to support on them to fight the good battle of the faith, which is good because it is not lost but won.
