Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said: “Who am I, O Lord God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?” 2 Samuel 7:18
God blessed David greatly, but he did not understand why He loved him so much, why his family was so important, why He had made him king of Israel and the promise that his dynasty would last forever. That is why he asked the Lord “Why, if I am your mere servant, who has served you with love. What have I done to deserve all this?”
David wanted to find the answer as to why God had set his eyes on him. He was so humble that he did not understand what was happening. This humility from the heart was what conquered the heart of God. He did not neglect a single moment giving Him the best worship in everything he did.
It is good for us to examine our heart and ask ourselves “Is it clean?”, “Am I doing what pleases Him?”, “Am I sincere at what I do?” “Do I always acknowledge my flaws and my mistakes?” If all the answers are affirmative, He will choose you, your family will be his family and He will make you important before others, for He has found a righteous heart that will never grow vain but remain upright and humble. He will know how to go about himself in view of the challenges of life, without giving up on the friendship he has established with his Creator.
Neither fame nor money nor position can change us. On the contrary, let us acknowledge that everything we are and how far we have come is because of his greatness. If we do stay small before Him, He will ennoble us, giving us a special place in his heart where our name will be written forever.
