Her rival, however, would provoke her bitterly to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. 1 Samuel 1:6
The Word says that Hannah cried and did not eat because she had no children. Her heart was saddened because of this, filled with bitterness and resentment. Her pain was so great that nothing could take it away; not even the words of her husband could console her.
There was nothing that could motivate her or make her come out from her sadness. Only a child could change her. But one day she went to the presence of God and prayed, not the same way she was used to; this time it was different.
Because, when she asked God for a child, it was to show Peninnah, her rival, that she could have children. Yet, when she changed her prayer, God answered her, for she prayed for a child, not to contend with someone but to glorify God.
Many are waiting for the answer to our prayers, but, until we change the reason for which we are praying, it will not come. He will only answer us if we do it with a heart that is clean and free of dispute.
