But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Colossians 3:8
How hard it is for us to maintain equanimity in moments of tension. It is like suddenly gunpowder exploded inside of us and made us lose control, regardless of later consequences resulted from the attitude taken towards facts.
All of a sudden, we forget that we are Christians and that we should take a stance different from others, for we are a new creation. It is sad to see how people with years in the faith have not been able to leave their old nature behind, so they keep acting the same way they did when they first came to Christ. The saddest thing is that we do not accept correction or being told “You did wrong”, “It is not the way”, “You cannot keep acting like that”. We immediately think that such a person is against us.
There are things we must accept before they can change. Not doing so is a sign of immaturity and lack of character. The decision is ours. We are the ones called to break away from this pattern, which harms us and others too.
When we acknowledge that we do not have to be slaves to our flesh, that we lose instead of winning, we will make the decision to have a true life in the Spirit. Because that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.
