“Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” 1 Kings 18:43

To reach God’s promises, we need faith and perseverance. Both are necessary and indispensable in our Christian life: faith enables us to see what is not seen, and perseverance keeps us fighting for what we have believed by faith. Without them, it will be impossible to achieve something; we would quickly be disappointed because there is nothing that sustains us and keeps us firm to fight against what is opposed to the blessing.

Elijah was a man of faith and perseverance who kept praying for rain, and seven times he sent his servant to climb the mount to see if he could spot a cloud indicating that it was going to rain. The seventh time, the servant said to him: “I see a cloud the size of the palm of my hand.”

So many blessings have escaped us for not having the spirit of Elijah, who continued to persevere in prayer, although nothing was seen. He believed that the rain would descend from Heaven, convinced that he would not move from there until he saw the sign in the heavens.
